VAMFF David Jones AW Runway launch

VAMMF opening night: David Jones Fashion Show Tuesday the 14th of March 2017    7.30pm start.

Love an opening night! After a day at work, then feeding my family dinner, and driving my little one to soccer training, getting ready before 6.30pm was a struggle. As a working mum and someone who doesn’t have a glam squad at hand, I think I did ok!

The location of the Exhibition building is stunning. Big space, easy car park access and on a warm night, it was buzzing. Priceline had hair and make-up application to freshen up, which I needed as I was a little shiny on arrival. Got a nude lip top up and a powder to ease the shine, and I was ready…

I then went for a drink at the Asahi Beer garden where I enjoyed a chilled rosé and took a few happy snaps whilst waiting for some girls to arrive!

The Lavazza section was buzzing with coffee, espresso martinis and sweets. I caught up with a few fashion bloggers and other stylists. It’s always great to have the chance to meet instagrammers who I follow, and chat all things style with them.

Show was about to start!

I headed in and took a seat…so looking forward to seeing the runway and the stunning clothes and AW17 fashion

Here goes…

Plenty of red! Red, red, and more red. So grab any red outfit and you are instantly on trend. Loved the Scanlon & Theodore looks. White is still a big trend…white shirts, pants and blazers.

Floral trend was huge in the catwalk, with Camilla & Marc incorporating floral in their new season range.

Khaki & military looks were shown on the runway too. Soft silk khaki shirts, along with soft pants worn with high stilettos were a feature.

Feminine looks along with detailed textures, frills and lace are still a huge trend with Thurley.

Straight hair has also made a come back, with poker straight blow waves replacing loose soft curls.

Peter Mac on the keyboard, and the amazing Sean Wright singing “Here comes the rain again” by The Eurythmics, made the finale an amazing experience

Thank you to David Jones and VAMFF.

Lower Price Point Clothing (Not saying the word “cheap”)

Today ladies I am writing about the price point of clothing, talking about cheap fashion v designer collections….. and by designer I am not talking about Versace etc.
When I am styling a client I am teaching them on how to look great without always spending top dollar….. It’s about putting looks together, things do not have to be expensive to look great.
I have seen a lot of high end pieces that look horrible, just because it’s a label it doesn’t mean it looks great on.
Firstly I am going to talk about the Kmart ! I know Kmart…. Well I have a friend, ( we all have one of those friends) who is pretty and a size 8 but manages to get most of her clothes from Kmart! Every time I see her she looks amazing! It’s how you put things together ladies, that’s what makes an outfit great, I love mixing good quality pieces along with your “not so pricey pieces” let’s not use the word cheap here.
So I head into my local Kmart and I find a pair of black textured shorts for $20 BARGAIN fully lined too, and guess what? They are cotton. If I had found them in Country Road they would have been $99. Make sure you screen properly, a lot of those stores that stock fast fashion are not presented well, they need steaming and most of all they need to be styled well. Take a look at Forever New, great styling well presented to the customer, so easy to find a top or two in that store. You need to have a good eye to be able to put a look together in your head, mix them with pieces that you already own.
It all in the cut ladies……
Well my second experiment was my Kmart jeans!!!! Woohooo A whopping $25 spent on these baby’s , stretchy fabric, high waisted on trend etc.…. looked at my butt from behind it looked ok. Be wary of cheap and nasty jeans, they do sometimes fade and the dye is toxic….. these ones I picked up and added them on social media and everyone wanted to know where I got them from…… Yep Kmart….
I hear you say, how long will it last? Well things don’t need to be washed THAT often, unless its dirty or it smells, you can wear it a few times. Well I hand wash all of my clothes in cold water, little bit of soap then hung out to dry. My clothes last for ages!
This was a fun experiment to try, have fun with it. And yes there are plenty of you out there that will say “ what about overseas cheap slave labour etc.” I get you , ethical companies are important. I am not saying buy ALL your clothing from these places, just have an open mind and try new things, you may end up worth more cash in your wallet to spend on holidays and other exciting things!

Looking Fabulous at 40

On today’s blog, let’s talk about dressing for the over 40’s. Age is indeed only a number; but when it comes to dressing as a 40 year old, the quote takes on a whole new meaning.

There are some items of clothing that, at a certain age, need to be archived for good. I’m not saying you can’t wear what you like, what I am saying is be mindful of how you may look to others. Ideally you don’t want to look like a try-hard 16 year old or be showing ample leg or bosom. In some cases, wearing inappropriate clothing can make you appear older than your actual age.

I focus mainly on personal style. Not everyone looks great in the latest trends. Find your style and stick to it. Avoid clothing that does not flatter your body shape. Your goal is to highlight, emphasise and create an illusion of a waist and your shape. Have you ever wondered to yourself why some women seem to carry themselves and style with such grace and ease? That, for the most part, comes down to confidence. They look great, therefore they feel great.

You must feel great in an outfit and it must fit well.

Let’s look at some staple pieces that are a must have in our wardrobe:

  • A classic white shirt. It must be crisp & clean. If it’s looking old & discoloured, bin it.
  • A long coat (this includes a trench)
  • A well cut blazer
  • A good pair of dark denim, well fitted jeans
  • A pencil skirt. Not too long, knee length is ideal

Choose current, seasonal trends and add them to your key, staple pieces. Items such as scarves, hats can help you transition easily. Don’t over-do it as it looks like you’re trying too hard.

Remember ladies, it must look effortless..

Let’s talk beauty regime now.

Clean hair is the number one rule with looking fabulous at 40. I, fortunately can get away with washing my hair once a week due to its texture. A well maintained mane is a number one priority.

If time is not your own, therefore a wash and blow wave is out of the question, pull your back into a pony tail or perhaps a loose bun. For the record, dirty hair has better texture and holds either style very well. or Dry a good quality DRY SHAMPOO.

Exercise is paramount in our 40’s. The days of eating whatever and whenever we want, alas, have gone. Walking or running are the key to maintaining a healthy weight. Weights are also are great way to tone your body. Keep some weights handy, ie, by the TV. 15 minutes of reps every 2 days is easy to maintain and sustain.

Skin care is also very important. Try to exfoliate your skin every week. Make sure you have a great cleanser and moisturiser. Find a product that works well for you. Invest in a good eye cream as well.

Styling the over 50’s

Reached the milestone of 50?

I had the pleasure of styling a wonderful lady who purchased a style session as a gift to herself.

During our initial consultation over a coffee, I found it difficult to gauge my client’s   body shape due to the ill-fitting clothes she was dressed in.

A common mistake both men & women make, is to wear ill-fitting clothes.

Most people are oblivious that they are wearing clothes that are all wrong for their body shapes.  My client was a perfect size 12.

Our first stop was Sportscraft, I headed straight for an amazing Navy Blue Blazer with gold detail (which happened to be on sale), I then teamed it up with a pair of straight leg dark denim jeans. Ladies avoid lighter patches on your jeans when you are curvy, the eye picks up on contrast so keep it one colour. Avoid skinny jeans at all cost. I then belted her jeans, grabbed a loose fitted white V neck Tee and that was simply all she needed to look fabulous!

We finished with a pop of colour by introducing an up to date stylish scarf. She couldn’t believe how much younger she looked and she felt so stylish and on trend!

My motto is “Keep things simple, clean and fitted” My very satisfied customer said prior to our styling session, she felt that she could never wear straight legged jeans due to her age. I could not believe what I was hearing. Some crucial styling tips make the world of difference.

Age is irrelevant when you have style. Learning how to style your outfits and make them work for you is easier than you think.

Also, make up is a must, a bronzer, some blush, mascara and lip gloss. Also thicker brows frame your face, so stop plucking.

Stores such as Country Road, Oxford, Sportscraft, Susan’s have  stylish and affordable key Blog picpieces. Katie’s are undergoing a massive transformation in direction and brand.

With so many clothing options around these days together with  my helpful style tips, there is absolutely no excuse to feel old and drab.

Email   vic.accessories@bigpond.com.au  and book yourself a style session, get ready for Spring Summer 2016.

The perfect “Nude” Nail polish shade

Perfect manucured nails are very important - you will be suprised how many people notice chipped and dirty nails.

Perfect manicured nails are very important – you will be surprised how many people notice chipped and dirty nails.

I was on the hunt to find the perfect nude nail polish this season !  Although we are seeing lots of plums and red this Winter 16 a nude is always a favourite of mine.

Well I was lucky enough to be given around 10 different brands for me to try!

THE WINNER IS ………

This ulta3  (untold secret) painted on nicely, the wider brush made it easier to get to the edges. After 2 /3 coats along with the TOP COAT  my mini manicure was completed.

This nude was not too pink and not too beige.  My pick this week for  “The Perfect Nude Polish”

Classic Looks for Pre Xmas Functions

leader

I was lucky enough to be featured in our local Leader Newspaper. I was asked to collect 4 seperate looks,  for different  occasions.

  • Look 1 – Was a BBQ, denim, chambray dress, along with tan wedges, loved this look because it was relaxed and not over done. Flopy hat is always a must. ALl these items were from Westfield Knox Country Road Store.
  • Look 2 – Family Function – Black & White always a favourite look of mine, simple, yet classic and stylish. Loved the white vest jacket. These items were all from Witchery.
  • Look 3 – Party – Who doesnt love a great pre xmas party, great excuse to get dressed up and add that extra bling! I choose this gorgeous Wayne Cooper dress from Myer.  I absolutely love the colour and it really makes a statement. Ladies dont go for boring old BLACK, add a pop of clour to an outfit and choose a bold colour.
  • Look 4 – Conservative Look – This dress I picked up from Jacque E, I loved the printed A line fabric, I added a white fresh cropped blazer with this look to give it the stylish and modern classic look to it. Keep jewellery to a minimum, and add a clutch and you are ready to go !

MC – Giuilana & Bill Event – Westfield Fountain Gate

Friday 26th October 2014-  What an amazing day we had at Westfield Fountain Gate! I was lucky enough to Emcee the Fashion Event of the Year at Westfield Fountain Gate.

We showcased all the Latest Trends for SS1. Jumpsuits, Playsuits, Colour, Prints, Printed Pants, Summer Whites and Dreamy Pastals were on the runway.

Meeting Giuliana & Bill Rancic backstage was AMAZING! They were so real and down to earth, we chatted about Life, fashion and baby Duke and how much they loved Australia. We talked about our fashion parade and all the Australian Designers she absolutely loves.

I was lucky enough to be invited this year to the Myer Marquee for Stakes Day which is the last day of the Spring Carnival!

I had a few weeks to prepare, what was I going to wear etc a hat or facinator??? Decisions, Decisions……..

Well dresses I have no problem getting my hands on, a few stunning styles, it was the weather that I was most concerned with, I had a few options….(as a stylist we must have options!) I was lucky to have a few….

I went straight to Kitchy Ku for my stunning Black lace dress (available to purchase thru my website email order thru to vic.accessories@bigpond.com.au) $179.00 RRP $240. It was so appropriate for the day, classic Black and Lace. I also added my Moschino Leather Belt along with my Wittner Black Shoes.

Walking in we were greeted with a glass of champagne and great atmosphere of fashion, style and colour. The DJ was playing the latest tracks and the dance floor had already formed….. Met some amazing fashion bloggers along with quite a few B grade celebs. I was hoping to meet the fab Jen Hawkins but the ever so handsome Kris Smith along with the stunning Lauren Phillips were happy to chat and take pictures with.

The dance floor was the place to be, Bernie was rocking it till finish time!

Drinks and food were a non stop, from tasty mini burgers, to fish cakes and tuna and cucumber picks! It was truly the place to be…………Loved every second of it. VT

Spring Summer Trends

So glad to be out of the dreaded winter……..

Spring Summer trends are out in stores at the moment, and we are loving the White on White, Citrus yellow and a favourite of mine Hot Pink!

I have show cased some amazing clothes and fashion with some workshops that I have conducted already this season, stores such Seed, Country Road, Jacquie E, and Esprit have some amazing pieces that are all available at the moment.

Remember that not all of us can wear white, depending on our skin tone and colouring you may want to stick to the cream or off white tones.

Remember to also Accessorise , jewellery always makes an outfit , and a pop of colour makes an ordinary outfit a little more interesting. I am working closely with a stunning jewellery wholesaler to have it available on my site which I am working on.

And what about shoes ! Straps and wedges and chunky heels are everywhere, I just purchased my summer strapy sandal with a thick silver heel.

I love spring summer and all the amazing new fashion, just need the weather to stick to one season for a few days!

Enjoy
