Trending now for Spring….

The weather is getting better and we are finally over the cold winter. Spring is in the air. Such a great time for fashion where we are finally ready to splurge and purchase our next season trends….. this trend is “The Suit”

It’s the return of the power suit…. next season be prepared to see suiting everywhere, from structural to relaxed feel. Bold colours and pastels are going to be huge next season along with checks and a strong 80s vibe.

I love a suit, it can take you from work to dinner with very few changes…. a soft pony and added jewellery for a sexy night look. Dress it down by adding a sneaker and a t shirt.

The flair or cropped pants are very popular with our suits, along with the cigarette style pants.

The beauty of the suit it can be worn together or as separates. Add a pair of jeans to the jacket with some wedges or heels. The pants can also be worn on their own with a black or white top.

I know print clash was a huge trend but I like to keep my patterns to a minimal as I don’t like them competing.

Stay tuned to more Spring Summer 2018 trends.

LBD – Little Black Dress

“Ok so lets talk about the old faith full the  LBD”

As a stylist I get asked all the time about a functional wardrobe, how to purchase the right items and more importantly how to build the perfect wardrobe!

First of all there are key pieces that we need to have – Great pair of fitted jeans, black fitted pants, great jacket pref a blazer, a leather jacket and a pencil skirt along with a crisp white shirt.

But the most important one is a little black dress.   This dress comes in handy for so many different occasions. A cocktail party, a dinner, catching up with friends, a funeral and of course a  corporate function.

It is  a versatile piece that we all need to have, at least one perfect black dress in our wardrobe.  I have picked this one from Witchery at Westfield Fountain Gate  with the bell sleeve, it  gives it the perfect detail….. And of course it has sold out. Boots are from Jo Mercer.

Whenever you are out looking for items to add to your wardrobe, whenever you find the perfect dress, buy it ! Chances are you will need it and you will wear it time after time.  Remember if it’s a fitted one like this always opt for shape wear to minimise underwear lines and to keep you nicely tucked in.

I hear ladies all the time, “I don’t go out much I will have no where to wear it”, when you are building the perfect wardrobe you will need items of clothing that you have to wear in an instant for a late party invitation. So many women go out the day before pay top dollar for a dress that they are not 100 percent with and it sits in their wardrobe collecting dust.

Winter Style

Winter has set in and its time to rug up and invest in good quality pieces.  I have picked two items for this months blog. They are both from Sussan’s.

Lets talk coats, lots of different styles around, they can be fitted, over sized and they can be dressed up or down and worn over  just about everywhere. This gorgeous grey one is the perfect length for me, I love the high neck and the buttons, and it’s not too long which I like.  The grey tone is very easy to wear and I can match it with just about everything I have in my wardrobe.

The second piece is a black & white striped shirt. You can add a leather skirt or black pants for an instant work out fit… I have teamed it up with a pair of denim jeans and leather jacket for a day or night look. Think versatility and you want to get lots of wears out of one item.  The stripe trend is a favourite of mine, although a lot of my clients refuse to wear stripes, thinking it makes them look bigger…. It depends on the cut and the type of stripe ladies, so don’t follow all the rules or the time, Have fun with fashion and take risks.

Stay warm

Autumn Winter 2018 Trend Report

Heading into the next season can be daunting…. “What should I be investing in, and what do I need to avoid?”

Last Friday night, I conducted a fashion workshop at Westfield, where I spoke about colour and how to introduce it into your new season wardrobe.

Colour is everywhere! Reds, plums, greens and yellow/mustard and plenty of pinks, rocked the runways at VAMMF last week. As a stylist, I am often asked by my clients, “What colours suit me and which do I need to avoid?” First of all, you need to know whether your skin is a warm tone, or a cool tone.

Grab a white sheet of paper and put it up near your face in natural light. If your skin appears yellowish or sallow beside the paper, you have a warm skin tone. If your skin appears pink, rosy or blueish red, then you have a cool tone.

So, lets look at RED! This colour is not going anywhere this season so I strongly suggest you invest in a piece of red, whether its a statement jacket, dress, or even a leather jacket. Match it with white, navy or black.

PINK, pastel or hot pink, is a great colour to wear this season too. If you don’t want to wear it as all one colour as I did at VAMFF,  then break it up with white. This colour suits most skin types too. Try to avoid the really light pink shade if you are a cool tone, as it can make you look quite pale. However, an olive complexion with dark hair suits any shade of pink so embrace this trend!

Lets look at another trend, PLAID/ CHECK. We are seeing lots of blazers and suits with this style. High waisted pants, double breasted jackets, also long jackets with a belt to look like a dress. This is quite a classic and sophisticated look which I love. I have also seen it in shirts and skirts, so if you are comfortable purchasing a suite then grab a piece of plaid/ check in a small piece and gradually build on it.

Another trend is STRIPES…big & bold. Team up this look with a natural block colour, so as not to compete with the hero piece.

A few more trends:

        * Over the knee high boots, in any colour.

        * Coats, grey, tan, chunky style.

        * Anything in blush/peachy tones.

Have fun with these new trends and try to avoid black. Invest in colour. I’m taking bookings for next season Styling Sessions now. Learn how to dress and style yourself so you are showing off your best assets.

How to wear everything in your wardrobe……

“How To Wear Everything In Your Wardrobe”

In a world where disposable fashion and social media are rife, it’s not surprising that we hate wearing something twice.

My wardrobe consists of staple pieces, most of which are classic pieces which don’t date.

I am writing a blog and posting pics of some my clothing. I am calling it,“How To Wear Everything In Your Wardrobe”.

Why is it that we “get over” clothes?  We wear them a few times then we “get over them”.

Before my recent overseas holiday, I had a big wardrobe cull and gave my little sister so many items that she will wear again and again.  So something we are “over”, more than likely,  someone else will “love”.

So Day 1 of my blog is my classic Carla Zampatti Linen jacket. Today  I have teamed it up with my black shirt. I can also wear it with a white tee and jeans to turn it into more of a classic style. Learn how to dress items up or down depending on the occasion.

Blazers, leather jackets and military style jackets are pieces you should try to hold on to, as they always come back in style.

I am on a mission to not buy anything “new” for a while or at least until summer kicks in and give my old faithfuls another run, and try to style them in different ways.

Follow my Instagram victoriasaccessories for the details.  I hope that gives you some inspiration to look at your clothes with a fresh set of eyes.

Keratin Straightening Treatment

I have been thinking of getting my hair straightened for some time, using a Keratin treatment.

It’s by no means like the old straightening solutions, which use nasty chemicals like formaldehyde.

My hairdresser, Dianne Enaty, has been chatting to me about it for a while, so I finally made the appointment with her.

As I am heading overseas for a European summer, I liked the idea of not having to spend too much time blow waving my hair. My normal blow wave takes 40 minutes.

The process was:
• She washed my hair with a special shampoo to prepare the hair for the treatment.

• My hair was then rinsed and dried with the hairdryer.

• The treatment was then combed through my hair in small sections. The small sections are key to obtaining a great result.

• The treatment was left in for a while, then, a straightener was used to seal it in. Once again in small sections.

I was in the chair for a few hours.

I was able to head home and wash my hair in the morning with only a cold rinse… no shampoo or conditioner for three or four days after getting the treatment, as the solution takes time to work. After     this time, you should use sodium-sulphate-free shampoo to help maintain the treatment.

So the next morning, I rinsed my hair well with cold water. It felt soft and easy to comb through.

My blow wave took half the time, my usual 40 minutes took 20 minutes, and I didn’t need to add any product in at all!

So easy to blow wave and my hair is now smooth and flat, and more importantly NO FRIZZ!

Totally love it!

Thank you Dianne Enaty xxx

VAMFF David Jones AW Runway launch

VAMMF opening night: David Jones Fashion Show Tuesday the 14th of March 2017    7.30pm start.

Love an opening night! After a day at work, then feeding my family dinner, and driving my little one to soccer training, getting ready before 6.30pm was a struggle. As a working mum and someone who doesn’t have a glam squad at hand, I think I did ok!

The location of the Exhibition building is stunning. Big space, easy car park access and on a warm night, it was buzzing. Priceline had hair and make-up application to freshen up, which I needed as I was a little shiny on arrival. Got a nude lip top up and a powder to ease the shine, and I was ready…

I then went for a drink at the Asahi Beer garden where I enjoyed a chilled rosé and took a few happy snaps whilst waiting for some girls to arrive!

The Lavazza section was buzzing with coffee, espresso martinis and sweets. I caught up with a few fashion bloggers and other stylists. It’s always great to have the chance to meet instagrammers who I follow, and chat all things style with them.

Show was about to start!

I headed in and took a seat…so looking forward to seeing the runway and the stunning clothes and AW17 fashion

Here goes…

Plenty of red! Red, red, and more red. So grab any red outfit and you are instantly on trend. Loved the Scanlon & Theodore looks. White is still a big trend…white shirts, pants and blazers.

Floral trend was huge in the catwalk, with Camilla & Marc incorporating floral in their new season range.

Khaki & military looks were shown on the runway too. Soft silk khaki shirts, along with soft pants worn with high stilettos were a feature.

Feminine looks along with detailed textures, frills and lace are still a huge trend with Thurley.

Straight hair has also made a come back, with poker straight blow waves replacing loose soft curls.

Peter Mac on the keyboard, and the amazing Sean Wright singing “Here comes the rain again” by The Eurythmics, made the finale an amazing experience

Thank you to David Jones and VAMFF.

Lower Price Point Clothing (Not saying the word “cheap”)

Today ladies I am writing about the price point of clothing, talking about cheap fashion v designer collections….. and by designer I am not talking about Versace etc.
When I am styling a client I am teaching them on how to look great without always spending top dollar….. It’s about putting looks together, things do not have to be expensive to look great.
I have seen a lot of high end pieces that look horrible, just because it’s a label it doesn’t mean it looks great on.
Firstly I am going to talk about the Kmart ! I know Kmart…. Well I have a friend, ( we all have one of those friends) who is pretty and a size 8 but manages to get most of her clothes from Kmart! Every time I see her she looks amazing! It’s how you put things together ladies, that’s what makes an outfit great, I love mixing good quality pieces along with your “not so pricey pieces” let’s not use the word cheap here.
So I head into my local Kmart and I find a pair of black textured shorts for $20 BARGAIN fully lined too, and guess what? They are cotton. If I had found them in Country Road they would have been $99. Make sure you screen properly, a lot of those stores that stock fast fashion are not presented well, they need steaming and most of all they need to be styled well. Take a look at Forever New, great styling well presented to the customer, so easy to find a top or two in that store. You need to have a good eye to be able to put a look together in your head, mix them with pieces that you already own.
It all in the cut ladies……
Well my second experiment was my Kmart jeans!!!! Woohooo A whopping $25 spent on these baby’s , stretchy fabric, high waisted on trend etc.…. looked at my butt from behind it looked ok. Be wary of cheap and nasty jeans, they do sometimes fade and the dye is toxic….. these ones I picked up and added them on social media and everyone wanted to know where I got them from…… Yep Kmart….
I hear you say, how long will it last? Well things don’t need to be washed THAT often, unless its dirty or it smells, you can wear it a few times. Well I hand wash all of my clothes in cold water, little bit of soap then hung out to dry. My clothes last for ages!
This was a fun experiment to try, have fun with it. And yes there are plenty of you out there that will say “ what about overseas cheap slave labour etc.” I get you , ethical companies are important. I am not saying buy ALL your clothing from these places, just have an open mind and try new things, you may end up worth more cash in your wallet to spend on holidays and other exciting things!

Looking Fabulous at 40

On today’s blog, let’s talk about dressing for the over 40’s. Age is indeed only a number; but when it comes to dressing as a 40 year old, the quote takes on a whole new meaning.

There are some items of clothing that, at a certain age, need to be archived for good. I’m not saying you can’t wear what you like, what I am saying is be mindful of how you may look to others. Ideally you don’t want to look like a try-hard 16 year old or be showing ample leg or bosom. In some cases, wearing inappropriate clothing can make you appear older than your actual age.

I focus mainly on personal style. Not everyone looks great in the latest trends. Find your style and stick to it. Avoid clothing that does not flatter your body shape. Your goal is to highlight, emphasise and create an illusion of a waist and your shape. Have you ever wondered to yourself why some women seem to carry themselves and style with such grace and ease? That, for the most part, comes down to confidence. They look great, therefore they feel great.

You must feel great in an outfit and it must fit well.

Let’s look at some staple pieces that are a must have in our wardrobe:

  • A classic white shirt. It must be crisp & clean. If it’s looking old & discoloured, bin it.
  • A long coat (this includes a trench)
  • A well cut blazer
  • A good pair of dark denim, well fitted jeans
  • A pencil skirt. Not too long, knee length is ideal

Choose current, seasonal trends and add them to your key, staple pieces. Items such as scarves, hats can help you transition easily. Don’t over-do it as it looks like you’re trying too hard.

Remember ladies, it must look effortless..

Let’s talk beauty regime now.

Clean hair is the number one rule with looking fabulous at 40. I, fortunately can get away with washing my hair once a week due to its texture. A well maintained mane is a number one priority.

If time is not your own, therefore a wash and blow wave is out of the question, pull your back into a pony tail or perhaps a loose bun. For the record, dirty hair has better texture and holds either style very well. or Dry a good quality DRY SHAMPOO.

Exercise is paramount in our 40’s. The days of eating whatever and whenever we want, alas, have gone. Walking or running are the key to maintaining a healthy weight. Weights are also are great way to tone your body. Keep some weights handy, ie, by the TV. 15 minutes of reps every 2 days is easy to maintain and sustain.

Skin care is also very important. Try to exfoliate your skin every week. Make sure you have a great cleanser and moisturiser. Find a product that works well for you. Invest in a good eye cream as well.

Styling the over 50’s

Reached the milestone of 50?

I had the pleasure of styling a wonderful lady who purchased a style session as a gift to herself.

During our initial consultation over a coffee, I found it difficult to gauge my client’s   body shape due to the ill-fitting clothes she was dressed in.

A common mistake both men & women make, is to wear ill-fitting clothes.

Most people are oblivious that they are wearing clothes that are all wrong for their body shapes.  My client was a perfect size 12.

Our first stop was Sportscraft, I headed straight for an amazing Navy Blue Blazer with gold detail (which happened to be on sale), I then teamed it up with a pair of straight leg dark denim jeans. Ladies avoid lighter patches on your jeans when you are curvy, the eye picks up on contrast so keep it one colour. Avoid skinny jeans at all cost. I then belted her jeans, grabbed a loose fitted white V neck Tee and that was simply all she needed to look fabulous!

We finished with a pop of colour by introducing an up to date stylish scarf. She couldn’t believe how much younger she looked and she felt so stylish and on trend!

My motto is “Keep things simple, clean and fitted” My very satisfied customer said prior to our styling session, she felt that she could never wear straight legged jeans due to her age. I could not believe what I was hearing. Some crucial styling tips make the world of difference.

Age is irrelevant when you have style. Learning how to style your outfits and make them work for you is easier than you think.

Also, make up is a must, a bronzer, some blush, mascara and lip gloss. Also thicker brows frame your face, so stop plucking.

Stores such as Country Road, Oxford, Sportscraft, Susan’s have  stylish and affordable key Blog picpieces. Katie’s are undergoing a massive transformation in direction and brand.

With so many clothing options around these days together with  my helpful style tips, there is absolutely no excuse to feel old and drab.

Email  and book yourself a style session, get ready for Spring Summer 2016.
